My wife and I took some time out of our afternoon for this episode close upon the passing of Pope Francis and were richly rewarded! Good job, Elias and Pete!

I see that I haven’t been paying nearly enough attention to Pope Francis. I want to explore more of “political love,” becoming a people through encounters with the other versus, as Pete puts it, “coalitions of convenience.” So much of Francis’s work with indigenous peoples hits on work I’m curious about — his addressing problems at the proper levels instead of being ideologically global or local, his change of (as Elias puts it) his job description from running the Vatican machinery to being part of a larger movement to save humanity, and his emphasis on conversations and slow persuasion. My favorite line of all: “Real change happens when it’s spread through the life of the people.”

I love the mid-career conversion you describe Francis as experiencing, the shattered heart, which reminds me of Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward.

You guys have a unique and timely intergenerational chemistry—synergy, really. Your content and your connection with each other give me such hope.

So glad to hear the episode resonated! It's been a joy putting these out and hearing from folks on their relationships and experiences with the various Lost Prophets.
